Did aPlus.net experiences and horror stories like below made you think twice to signup with aPlus.net?
- “…These people are absolutely the worst and the most rude hosters I have ever dealt with. I did not want my service anymore…”

To be fair, do not dismiss the fact that aPlus.net is one of the biggest web hosting companies and has been in the market for quite some time. They also provide one of the good ecommerce hosting solutions if you need to start your own web store. You have read the other aPlus.net reviews elsewhere. aPlus.net does what a hosting company should do.
From the above number, only 1 out of every 40,000 SERP pages about aPlus.net says that this hosting sucks but this may not mean much. This number of negative comments is still good considering more recently, there has been more negative feedback added about them. Many of those complaints are from the dedicated server customers or their reseller hosting clients.
In addition, Aplus.net was awarded CNET’s Most Popular Web Hosting for six years and counting. It was also a past recipient of the CNET Editors’ Choice Award. There were also in the Inc.500/5000 list as one of the fastest growing private companies in the U.S. for 2009.
We know, finding a good web hosting can be tiring and time consuming, when you should be building your blog or selling your product.

It seems Aplus.net has sold a lot of their service to Hostopia. As a result, we have spent days on the phone trying to correct problems. Hostopia seems to have very poor service, as opposed to the old Aplus. Now, instead of speaking with service personnel, you talk to call screeners who give you a repair ticket #, then never call back.
Stay away from either of these companies now.
I agree, I was or should say “for the moment” still with APLUS.NET and service is crap since the new company owns it. Used to get things resolved quickly now I am losing money on my business!
They will only be able to get so far by claiming the past awards are from their current service and owners. For 10 years they were great, now is another story.
DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY REGARDLESS OF THE ABOVE REVIEW. NUMBERS DO LIE AND ARE OFTEN MANIPULATED TO SAY WHAT PEOPLE WANT.
Yep, they are horrible, ever since their upgrade our site has been inoperable. 11 days later, and still constant support tickets and no help whatsoever.
The only good support staff are Victor and Alexander who actually try to help! Everyone else simply gives you a ticket and bye bye.
Stay away if at all possible! Especially if your domain is your livelihood!
Aplus is a nightmare. STAY AWAY. They have limited or no technical expertise and the customer service is abysmal. I have been trying to get an MX record altered for more than 3 weeks and they still cant figure out how to accomlish this 3 minute change. Now they lost all my email distribution lists! Ahhhh!
These guys suck quite a lot, almost everyday. If you think thats sometimes, you got issues.
I absolutely agree. I was paying about $45 a MONTH for service that was terrible. They lost my discussion forums, my live chat options and had code ALL over my pages. When I called up to ask what had happened, they told me it was MY fault. I had not uploaded anything since August (it is now November) but interestingly enough they had ‘upgraded’ their server! Sadly they could not admit that soemthing had goen wrong on their side and more or less said ‘tough luck’. Tough luck YOU APLUS – I walked away and now have a different server AND will let everyone know what happened at every opportunity I can!
For few initial months, until the “upgrades” (sale of accounts) of October 2009, I had absolutely no complaints. Their interface may be a bit clumsy and not the best, but it was simple and it worked. The support has always been there for me. Since the “upgrade”: after four agonizing weeks of trying to bring the eComm site back into operation I have finally cancelled with them today. I have never seen the quality of service of any company plummet so low so quickly. It was like the place got hijacked overnight, suddenly there is no one remotely competent or able to solve elementary issues. Abysmal response time. You’ll be lucky if you get a basic ticket turned around in less than 3-4 days. If there is something magic about Aplus.net for you, give them a few months before you sign up and see if they’re still in business. If not, keep scrolling to your next hosting option.
Going through the pain right now with a client who hosts with them. Site was running fine, then they did a upgrade… almost half the site is not working now. Databases were blank (no tables), the Perlfect Search modules no longer indexes to update search results on the site… I could go on and on.
Terrible customer service, they’re rude and I’ve had no communication on 4 trouble tickets since Sunday.
We’re looking at alternatives right now!
Did you try the inMotion hosting like suggested above? I heard they are the best nowadays.
APlus did their so-called upgrade and TOTALLY messed up my site. The site did not work, I had to delete the old site and re-do it in another format. They screwed up all the scripting and NEVER got it fixed. Now they have just screwed up another one.
Call and you are placed on hold for 25 minutes each time and NO ONE ever calls you back….STAY FAR, FAR away..they are horrible since September 2009.
I am actually considering legal action to recoup some of the cost of custom scripting they screwed up which cost me quite a bit.
I must say I agree. I used to love aplus.net, recommended it to everyone. There service was terrific. Now that Hostopia has taken it over I gringe everytime I need to contact their technical service. There is no doubt that their front line people on the live chat do not know what they are doing. I even had one say that I have nothing else I can say and told me to check in later about tier 3 correcting the problem and she ended the chat. This is like having someone hang up the phone on you. I was furious. This person attempted to correct the problem during the beginning of the chat and slowly made it worse and even effected one of my other websites. I must say that I am so disappointed in Hostopia that I will probably move my websites to another provider once I determine who would be best. I do not do it right away as I am sure it will be painful plus my websites will be offline for 24 to 48 hours letting the DNS servers catch up with the IP address. I’ve been through that before.
Anyway, just wanted you all to know they are still not doing well on the tech support side. Oh, before I sign off, they never get back to you to let you know they fixed the problem, and when you push and finally get an answer, it is like pulling teeth to find out what the correction was.
Cheers,
I just posted a page about the recent problems that I have had.

Aplus is the worst hosting company I’ve ever worked with. I’m not emotional and upset, but what everyone here is saying is accurate. We haven’t had access on our site for over a week, they change DNS without notifying us, they revert to old web sites after changes, they transfer only partial portions of the web site. It’s beyond reprehensible. Never, EVER go with them.
They used to be really good, but now their technical support is non existant.
As an example… I tried to get them to update their IP address for my domain name server as I had recently changed static IPs and as their records were still pointing to my old IP the root level servers were getting the wrong authoritative host causing lame delegations.
Their user interface doesnt allow you to enter the IP address for your nameservers and the drones on the live chat are unable to deviate from their scripted responses to your questions.
I’ll be moving to another domain registrar very shortly. A pity because they were always such a helpful company.
I had been a customer for years and was satisfied, but they recently did an “upgrade” and broke the ability to host wordpress blogs (due to a VERY outdated version of libxml2 from 2006 you can’t update the blog from any 3rd party app). They refuse to fix it and are even less helpful about compensating me for the headaches they have given me. I’m writing this review and then leaving them ASAP! I fought with them for 2 months with closed service tickets with no reason, no responses, nothing. Finally got a “we are not able to update that, sorry” The bug was fixed a year ago and since their version is 4 years old wordpress has problems. They suck!
TERRIBLE! I was a customer for over a decade but when dozens of e-mails to support and billing went completely unanswered for WEEKS (plus they were charging me double what I could get elsewhere) it was finally worthwhile to make a change. Now I can’t get them to cancel my account! They just keep billing my credit card! Again I am getting no answers! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Aplus.net is the worst host provider from hell! I had 15 sites hosted with them and then one day, BLAM! They killed it all and they just transferred all my data and it took them 3 weeks! up to now, they are unable to provide any access my account, and their migration was a total farce since all my settings do not even work anymore!. Their customer service just does not give a hoot! As a matter of fact, they even said if I want to file a complaint, that i should send it to [email protected]. The customer service guy actually they couldnt care any less what i do. These guys wont even give me a refund for the past 3 weeks that they killed my sites and emails! What a bunch of idiots! Do yourself a favor and never deal with these wackos. THank God i am with another host provider now.
I have been with them since 2000. Back then, they were a fantastic organization I simply couldn’t be happier with. It looks like they got bought out by a completely terrible company that has turned what once was a wonderful experience in to sheer hell. I have been migrating all my sites to other companies and can’t wait to be done with them for good. Their customer service is terrible. I’ve never had a returned email. Not one in the last year. They rarely answer messages and their automated phone system is abysmal. I have regretted recommending them to clients and have had my professional reputation tarnished in the process. Their domain registration practices are more like a shake down than a business. Stay away at all costs.
If you don’t mind my asking: who are you using now for shared hosting (like the APLUS business plan (about $10/month)?
We use Hostgator Hatchling plan. It cost $9.95/month. The best hosting we have had since after going through 5 other hosts.
Heard that InMotion Hosting ($6.95) is great too but haven’t tried…
I have nothing but contempt for this company.
After three calls to “customer service” about charges to my CC card for yearly hosting of a website i had not been involved with for a few years – (i was billed the Jan 14th 2010, and called the 15th after reviewing my CC card statement online) – i have yet to recieve any clarity pertaining to what process would result in a successful cancelation and reversal of charges.
As it stands now, I have contacted my CC vendor to dispute the charges…. and suggest that anyone looking at APLUS.NET as a host provider seriously reconsider.
I have been using APLUS since I first started doing websites. A year ago I wrote a post on my business website saying that I have had excellent service and support from APLUS, and that all except 3 of my client sites are hosted with them, and I’m trying to get the other 3 to move. I even mentioned that there was no drop in service when a new company took them over. Many of my sites use customer PHP, MySQL, WordPress, and other features that are easily set up through APLUS’s control panel.
Furthermore, none of my sites or my client sites had any problem with their switch to new servers last fall. APLUS told me/us when they were doing the change and advised not making changes during this period. No problems.
BUT … I’ve had a flurry of new clients starting in December, and have expanded some of the functions on these new sites. I’ve had nothing but trouble with them. When something doesn’t work, APLUS support ***always*** responds with a stock email asking for information that was in my original problem report, and saying they will respond in 24-48 hours. Then they come back asking for more information, often stuff that makes no sense (like, please send the headers of the message from an email list, when the problem is that the email list isn’t sending out messages). I’m now on the ***4th*** round of dumb questions from them on a simple function malfunction on their end. And in this particular case, this one item is the last thing between me and billing the client.
I asked customer service for the name and direct email address of a real person I could contact with my concerns about their support. My intent is to be sure they know that they are losing their reputation. I wanted to point out that 100% of the responses via the technical live chat is excellent and 100% of the responses to email or problem reports through the control panel problem reporting tool get lousy response. It has been 2 weeks and there has been no response.
Moving a current site from one host to another sucks, mostly because the domain registration process takes too long. (Reloading is certainly simple). So I don’t want to have to move my current sites off APLUS. But with a proposal in the works for a new client, I’m not suggesting APLUS. I don’t know how I’m going to explain to him why I’m not proposing the same host as I did for his wife’s business a month ago … the one with the mail list problem (plus a half dozen similar problems).
If the new host I try isn’t MUCH better, I might close up shop. It isn’t worth the aggravation.
we moved to telus finally. after some terrible story.
they updated machine or something and it made our emails collapse for entire one week. called, called, said “will be fixed in XX hours”. but looks nobody really worked on it.
Aplus was good long time ago. (5 yrs or more) ago. Now, i say it is a worst hosting company.
we run a lot domain names for our clients, if you run your web just for fun. not for real business, go with aplus for learn some bad experiences.
if you want to do some realy web hosting, real email work. do not try aplus.
when it suck, it will be VERY difficult for you to move away. and they sucks, just sucks.
Gotta agree with every comment above. My latest “tech support” encounter was with a simple formmail script not installing properly through the cPanel wizard. When I called to get help, it was obvious the person on the phone was clueless about the script. I’ve had no luck in using the on-line chat – have never gotten through to anyone. I now have a client whose site is offline – with a nameserver error! How is that even possible?
Don’t try to get a refund for their mistake!
Worst company ever. They sent me a statement for 800 some odd dollars back in September. I told them, hey I can’t afford that. What if I pay monthly? They say that’s not possible. Then they run me around in circles for a month with no clear answer on how to cancel their service for a dedicated server I don’t need. After multiple phone calls and emails and lots of shady communication they have now sent my account to collections. Even though I tried to cancel and tried to find alternatives. Seems I had to send something in writing to them in August. Funny that they didn’t send me the statement until September making that all but impossible to happen.
Please do not make the same mistakes I did with this company. Even though they have now changed their name to Codero, do not be fooled. Stay very far away.
I am so glad to have found this website – nothing but problems with aplus since the acquisition. I have also been looking into other hosting companies and would love feedback from previous aplus customers.
Unfornately, I have to keep them until March of next year, but I am switching then. Their customer service is absolutely terrible. They tricked me into paying for a service I didn’t need and they refuse to refund.
Something must have happened to what was a great service called Aplus. I used to love them. Great service, quick tech support. NO LONGER.
I’m guessing the name change to “Codero” is meant to try to sweep under the carpet all the bad that Aplus has become and hide behind a new name (like Blackwater renaming themselves “Xe”)
The fact is that Codero is one gigantic mess. Their network is often down, especially in their Phoenix data center. They’ve been having repeated power issues, with three network outages over 4 hours within one month supposedly due to the same power breaker issues. Communications and status updates are non-existant, save one not very helpful twitter feed.
Their tech support is just laughable. The people there are lazy, and do very little other than say “this is an issue with our _insert other dept_. Please open a ticket and we’ll forward it to them”. Why bother answering the phone then? And those tickets take hours to get answered.
We’ve gotten so tired of them, we’ve moved to a much more expensive hosting solution that prides itself on “fanatical support”, and never been happier.
I would not advise anyone to get on Codero or Aplus right now. Perhaps with Aplus’ purchase by the Deluxe corp. things will change. But I’m not sure that Codero is affected, and they right now are a company to stay away from.
Totally agree with TSR and most others, that in my opinion A Plus used to be GREAT, but now they are (in my opinion) the WORST HOST ON THE NET!
I agree-Aplus.net is the worst – we have used them for 6 years. The customer service is awful in troubleshooting problems. If you have a choice. Do not use aplus.net.
aplus.net is really bad, i will be switching hosting by the end of the month.
i encountered problems to upload video files on my website. first i thought it was the file type but i have tried (avi., flv and mkv) still no use i am guessing they have a “cap” on how big of a file you can upload, because i got a “permission denied when i finally uploaded the file 99% of a video.
This inconvenience forces me to upload my videos on websites like Veoh, which forces me to give up video quality and time limits that i shouldn’t really have to do.
I will make sure to do my research on picking a better webhosting next time thanks alot aplus.net

OH MY GOD! I paid for a month of service which started out with good feel since the sales guys were helpful and the customer service was polite but then it happened!!! One of my subdomains keeps showing their hosting page rather than the web pages I have set up. They keep blaming my domain company or me or the rain…
To show them that it was them, I changed my name servers to Zone edit and everything started working. Instead of getting a lesson and fixing the problem at their end, they closed tickets saying that everything was working!!! On following uo, they blamed me for having the wrong name servers so I am quite frustrated and am moving. They wont refund my money even though my site has not been fully functioning since the day I started. Their tech team sucks so bad, I think they should offshore their tech support to India.
My assessment:
Customer Service gets 4/5 stars
Billing gets 2/5 stars
Technical team gets 0/5 stars
Price wise, they get 3/5 stars
