I had the same experience as Todd R. My hosting plan (PRO) is supposed to have automatic domain renewal. I paid my $107.40 like I was supposed to on December 13, 2009 (the renewal date). Now on January 30, 2010 they claim that my domain name renewal was set to manual and it had expired and to get it back they would charge me $160.00.
As of January 30, 2010 I have terminated service with IPOWER.
The reasons are as follows
1) The domain name problem
2) As they upgrade the PRO hosting plan over the years they did not upgrade my account to match the new features BUT they charged me the new rate each year even though I didn’t have the new features (such as expanded disk space, band width, MySQL databases, etc.)
3) Their support service sucks
4) Even if you log into their site and initiate a tech support chat they want you to jump through hoops to check to see if your domain name is working.
5) Their plans cost way too much. You can go search and find 1000s of web hosting providers offering the SAME or BETTER service for LESS money – and that isn’t the “special” new user offer amount either! They were going to INCREASE my rate to $9.95 a month for the PRO plan – check it out yourself … many sites offer the same plan and more for $6.95 a month and it is not an introductory rate.
As to their response about “only about 2 in 1000 say we suck” … well until you have to use their tech support or get screwed over you won’t realize what types of crooks you are dealing with!
