Heard about EasyCGI problems? Some say Easy CGI hosting scams? Saw some EasyCGI.com issues, EasyCGI complaints and bad customer experiences? Can these negative reviews be trusted? Heard some horror stories about their limitations?
If you are considering to get a hosting account from EasyCGI, you may want to (or probably have tried to) search for the keywords “EasyCGI Sucks” on Google. However, the result may confuse you. Perhaps you have read tons of good stuff and rave reviews about EasyCGI.com thus far.
EasyCGI experiences and stories like below may make you think twice to signup with EasyCGI:
- “…they have gone from good to terrible. The sites are down very often, the support spits out…”
- “This week I have been experiencing downtime here and there. My husband and business partner are the only thing stopping me from jumping ship…”
- “They scheduled a 24hr maintenece window to xfer data centers and their entire operation has been a F#!%ing black hole for 5 days now…“
If you go through each of Googles result pages, it seems there are some unsatisfied customers and clients who have been through some sticky situation with EasyCGI. If you search for the keywords “EasyCGI sucks”, you see that there about 100 results by Google. Is that a lot of bad things said about one hosting? Assuming all those result pages really talk about why this hosting provider sucked in some ways. There may be a few more result pages when you search for “EasyCGI scam”, “EasyCGI issues“, or ”EasyCGI problems“. Should these hate or complaint sites worry you after you have read so many positive reviews? Should hate pages make you change your mind?

To be fair, do not dismiss the fact that EasyCGI is one of the top multi domain hosting companies and has been in the market for a long time. You have read the other EasyCGI reviews elsewhere. They are not all bad.
From the above number, only 1 out of every 2,000 SERP pages about EasyCGI says that this hosting sucks. Most of these EasyCGI complaints are from VPS and dedicated server customers during a major data-center migration in mid-2008. If you just need a basic shared account, you probably will not run into these EasyCGI problems.
We know, finding a good web hosting can be tiring and time consuming, when you should be building your blog or selling your product.
So our verdict: Hostingsthatsuck.com Recommends EasyCGI for Beginners
If you are a professional or planning to host custom programs or critical databases, proceed with caution. EasyCGI was known to make a huge mess in 2008 during a migration which effected many customers with custom scripts and programs. If you just want a simple website maybe using popular blogging scripts such as WordPress or widely used forum software, you probably will not go wrong with EasyCGI.

No offense, but I believe you are referring to the “Pre-Migration” EasyCGI. They have been absolutely abysmal as of late causing massive data losses (several of my sites fell into that category), modifications to code (yes, they actually must have done a global search and replace on code … which of course broke) and incredible incompetence with Support.
So, I think you should heed the warnings of the population at large. Easy CGI went through a big transition. My credit card company even had to send me a new card as EasyCGI apparently tried to pull down a bunch of money off my card after we cancelled our accounts (we were completely paid in full). The “Fraud Protection” group on my card called me and said there was an urgent situation there that needed to be stopped.
Yes, I agree any migration or changing data centers can be a pain. Companies that don’t plan properly is bound to have problems. Correctly me if I am wrong, but these problems mainly affected VPS customers?
Hopefully, they will learn from their mistakes and customers who joined post-migration will have a smooth sailing service.
During the migration(August) they kept their old database running. Hence my site was still working with the old database for past three months. Not all of the sudden old database is closed. I look at this new database and realized that they restored the back ups from August. All of my data for the past three months are lost in the new one. I called them so many times but they keep saying the old server is shutdown and unreachable. Its been more than a week but they still haven’t restored it. I wonder if they already deleted from the old servers.
I have to agree with the other commenters. I’ve been a customer of easycgi for years, since their very beginnings and this migration has eroded all past confidence in them. It has been a nightmare.
easycgi was great back in 2005. i set up my account and never had to deal with them. within the past year they have destroyed all confidence i have in them.
1.) in their migration they zeroed out my database with the only backup being empy
2.) they reset my password and didn’t tell me for 24 hours what they had done
3.) i can no longer use mysql query browser, only their install of phpmyadmin
4.) no .net apps can run in full trust mode
5.) it took almost three years to get php5/mysql5 support
6.) my php5 apps have been reverted to the php4 server
easycgi has failed me for the last time.
Our website was transferred from Webstrike Solutions who sold their accounts to EasyCGI aka I Power Web. We had zero problems with Webstriker and they were the best. This disgusting web host has ethical problems. They are not able to be truthful and did not address the problem but ignored our requests. Do not do business with them! If you ever need assistance with a class action law suit, we will be pleased to assist.
Right now easycgi Suck for the following reasons :
1 – they lack respect for customers, they should have informed us as to exactly what went wrong with the company.
2 – Fake migration story, I do not believe in any migration story. If your server’s ain’t got issues, why Fix it? Customers were satisfied with their services, suddenly they decided to fix servers that had no problems
3- their technical support are high school drop-outs, they basically don’t know what they are doing
4 – they systems are very unstable, your website can be down for days, no one in the company would know. If you contact them, they will open a ticket for you and thats the beginning of a 48 or more waiting hours
Don’t do easycgi if you love your business
I cancelled all my accounts with them today. They have overcharged my credit card, and was not even helpful when I brought up the issue. Terrible customer service. Think twice before you sign up with them. Even if you want to cancel, there is a $35 fee for that. You have been warned!
I have had a shared host with them. I think that they meant well at first but they have really got themselves into the sht since migrating.
I had a cheap shared hosting account with them, just for a simple website, but it seemed like almost every day the website would be down for some reason. Whatever was causing it to go down, I’m not sure, but they onbiously never bothered to monitor it. Each time it was down I would send a support ticket and they would sheepishly bring it back up again within 24 hours. 24 hours is OK, but my new host is cheaper and responds to this type of problem in under 30 minutes.
I was a customer with easycgi for many years (as well as a reseller), when i started receiving notices that some domains were due for renewal i did the logical thing and tried to navigate to the renewals page, but wait… it didn’t exist? they had somehow deleted that page so i notified them via email & support ticket only to have them tell me it was a fault at my end, like every single computer & browser i checked all had the same fault.
eventually they told me they would fix it and i should check back in a week (when my domains were about to expire). a week went by, i checked back, the page was up “hooray” i thought, but no. the renew button refused to function. it was there, almost like an image left to taunt me that i was about to lose my domains to the abyss. i also noticed i wasn’t able to change any DNS or other details (admin, tech contacts, etc).
i opened more support tickets & sent more emails, eventually i got my domain renewed, but boy was it a headache. i started transferring all my domains away from easycgi apart from one which had been registered less than 30 days before, i also cancelled my hosting account. keeping in mind that as soon as possible i had to transfer that last domain away – of course it slipped my mind.
little did i know, during the cancellation of my hosting/reseller account easycgi’s team had taken it upon themselves to… change all my admin/tech/contact information to something i knew nothing about. so when the domain came up for renewal again this year, guess what, i wasn’t notified and i lost my site & email for days, then was told it was my fault the info was wrong and i had to pay easycgi $170USD to get my domain back or i would lose it to the highest bidder. after THEY changed my information without my permission.
there has got to be some law against this sort of extortion, if it’s illegal for the mafia, then it should be illegal for easycgi!
if anyone wants to launch a class-action suit against easycgi, count me in. worst host in the history of the internet. NEVER use easycgi.

Serkan Bal: but most of your customer will be looking for this
Serkan Bal: Thanks again, have a nice day.
Worst hosting service I ever had… I moved 8 hosting accounts from easycgi in the last few months.
easyCGI used to be soooo good. Ive was a customer since 2005 when they were awesome. Since that migration a while ago everything has just sucked, support (ha, use the term very loosly) is basically somthing i reckon my mum could do a better job of (she just learned to use email recently) FTP drops all the time, DB’s loose info. custom DLL forget about it (and i did try for about 3 weeks of back and forward emails)…. the list goes on.
Anyway I moved about 30 sites off there in the last 6 months and have never looked back. It was a time consuming and painful exercise, but when whenever i go back there to do work on a site hosted with them it nearly bings me to tears, everything takes about 4 – 5 times longer than it should just dealing their BS.
to calrify I HAVE HAD A LOT OF EXPERIENCE WITH THEM FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. I HATE CHANGE BUT HAD NO CHOICE. I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM EASY CGI, THERE ARE HEAPS OF BETTER OPTIONS AVAILABLE.
EasyCGI is worst site i have come across. They terminated my account saying you have used your account for file hosting. In real i have stored an 30MB Ms Access file with few asp pages that come to total 60MB at most. The plan says I have 350GB storage space with 3500GB Bandwidth @ 10$/month. They terminated my account with complete data loss and no refund. It has worst management with 3 to 4 days reply time. WORST FILE HOSTING
WORST FILE HOSTING
WORST FILE HOSTING
WORST FILE HOSTING
Did you just say you used their service as ‘file hosting’? Aren’t you suppose to use their storage space for “web hosting”? I guess that is the reason why you got suspended. I am sure they are not the best file hosting for obvious reasons, they are not a file hosting company!
Try file hosting services such as Elephant Drive if you need to share or backup files from work or your PC.
It took me 9 days to get EasyCGI (partnered with SRSPlus) to finally unlock my domains so that I could transfer them to a new registrar. The domains had both been expired for about 14 days at the time.
The manner in which EasyCGI (partnered with SRSPlus) have handled my domain transfer was extremely poor and represents one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had to endure. EasyCGI approached this matter with sheer ignorance and breathtaking arrogance. It took 9 days to resolve a simple issue which consumed so much time from so many parties. Their unprofessional conduct was highlighted when they attempted to remove themselves from any implication of having breached the ICANN Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy.
EasyCGI request that a customer pay $160 to release an expired domain if it has been expired for more than 2 weeks (and this excludes the renewal costs). Here is a quote from EasyCGIs Customer Support person Reed Safford:
“If you do not renew your domain before the 2-week period the domain goes into a period called the Domain Redemption Period. You can get your domains out of Redemption period upon paying $160.00 fee imposed by the registrar. Note that this does not include the renewal fee. Hence I suggest that you renew the domain names at the earliest so that the domain name will not move to Redemption Period.”
This appears to be a blatant breach of the ICANN Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy and I believe represents a form of extortion. For this reason I have also pursued the matter with the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN).
It was only that I persisted with email after email that they finally unlocked my domains for transfer without charging me.
SRSPlus attempted to distance themselves from the matter by claiming that they could only do what their partner (EasyCGI) allowed. Despite the ICANN Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy SRSPlus did nothing to help me out.
Avoid EasyCGI at all costs! SRSPlus (Domain Registrar) are meant to be good, but they were not helpful in any way, and I would avoid any company that partners with EasyCGI.
