Heard that InMotion sucks? How about InMotion hosting problems? Saw some InMotionhosting.com issues, InMotion.com complaints and bad customer experiences? Can these negative reviews be trusted? Heard some horror stories about inMotion webhost? READ THIS FIRST!
If you are considering to get a hosting account from InMotion, you may want to (or probably have tried to) search for the keywords “InMotion Sucks” or “inMotion bad” on Google. However, the result may confuse you. Perhaps you have read tons of good stuff and rave reviews about InMotionhosting.com thus far.
Did InMotion experiences and stories like below or made you think twice to signup with InMotion?
- “…tried to sign up and they refused my account. Why you ask? Because I did not answer my phone when they called to varify my account…”
- “I tried to get some simple questions answered in an online chat with Brian C. but after only ONE question he disconnected…”
- “Called them and left a message. They never called back…”
If you go through each of Googles result pages, it seems there are very few unsatisfied customers and clients who have been through some sticky situation with InMotion. If you search for the keywords “InMotion sucks“, you can see that there are a few search engine result pages (SERPs) but you have also heard elsewhere that InMotion is one of the most reliable web host. Is that a lot of bad things said about one hosting? Assuming all those result pages really talk about why this hosting provider sucked in some ways. There may be a few more result pages when you search for “InMotion scam“, “InMotion issues“, or “InMotion problems“. Do these hate or complaint sites worry you after you have read so many positive reviews? Did the hate pages make you wonder if InMotion hosting is any good?
Hosting | Total Pages About Web Host |
Total Hate Pages About This Host |
Hate/Pages Ratio |
---|---|---|---|
InMotion | 300,000+ | less than 5 | only 0.0001 |
Think again. However, do not dismiss the fact that InMotion is one of the earliest and most experienced web hosting companies. They are also one of the best ecommerce hosting in the market today. They have been awarded 3 Star Certified Service Provider by CNET from 2003. Inmotion hosting is also an accredited “A+” rated member of the “Better Business Bureau” (2002-2011) meaning they are serious about customer support and we can guarantee you will not be dissapointed even if you are a newbie. Other review sites has given Inmotion hosting awards too such as:
Now that you have read the other InMotion reviews here and elsewhere, InMotion does what a hosting company should do. InMotion actually answers their phones, replies to their emails, responds to live chat requests, doesn’t rip you off, and provides quality hosting. So among the hundred thousands of satisfied clients, surely they will be a few sour grapes who disagree. Let us look at the numbers above again.
From the above number, only 1 out of every 300,000 SERP pages about InMotion says that this hosting sucks. This is still extremely good considering other hostings we have looked at have way worst ratio. The hate pages is actually negligible. It is not significant enough to be reliable. The few negative reviews also came from people who have not really purchased their service yet.
Not overselling – many companies these days offer unlimited add-on domains from one hosting account. InMotion does not. Allowing unlimited domains to be hosted from one account will result in you sharing your website with too many other websites, which in effect the performance of the server that you are on.
Upgrade options from the same company – if you have a business, you most probably want to see it grow day after day. That means you will have some kind of vision to move from the cheap hosting to a bigger hosting some time in the future. The video below explains the differences between the types of hosting accounts (shared, VPS and dedicated).

Find out how |
Well, I signed up for inmotion and they told me they would transfer my two websites completely and make sure they were working 100 percent. Well i had tons of trouble after the transfer and had a hard time dealing with the techs. After i found a three things that did not work, they tried to tell me that they can’t fix everything(they told me the site would work 100 percent after the transfer). Well, it appeared to work until a week ago and come to find out the techs did not transfer the sites correctly. They left my database pointing to the old host and now refuse to fix the badly done transfer. This leaves my links pointing to a database that don’t exist. I would get everything in writing before doing ANYTHING with this company. I’m considering a lawsuit……and i though startlogic was bad……
Joe, sorry to hear about your transfer problem.
I would never allow other people to transfer my files and database. We are the only people who know best about our programs, data etc. If the website being transfered is very critical and cannot be down during the migration, we even hired consultants to do it.
However, we agree that web hosts should do what they should do, managing the servers and having it up 99.9% of the time. Asking a web host to transfer your files and DB is a bit on the gray side… those tasks are not exactly what they do best (no matter what they said they are capable of).
Well, I’m inclined to suspect that Joe is an asshole. I have been with Inmotion for the last four years and they are faultless, helpful with anything and respond quickly.
“I’m considering a lawsuit”. Pfft. You dick.
Joe,
Are you serious you have to be considering a lawsuit! For a simple problem that can be fixed in probably an hour tops. Act as if you have lost a ton of money. I am just appalled by comments like this, because people are so quick to get their lawyer and screw someone or a respectable company.
I have had a VPS InMotion account for 2 years and simply love it! They are always willing to help me and transferred a number of my sites with no problems at all. In fact, they even fixed a couple issues for me on some WordPress websites that had a doggy plugin installed.
I will be upgrading to a dedicated plan with them in a couple months. I would highly recommend InMotion hosting they are simply the best!
Garen
I am using InMotion business class hosting (shared server) for my web site, and they have been pretty good for me. Their customer service is excellent. I had a complaint about their MySql version, and they offered me right away to switch to another server that had an updated version. Besides that I haven’t had any issues.
PRONET HOSTING REALLY SUCKS!!! I HATE THEM! THEY HAVE EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DESPITE THE FACT THAT I WAS A DEVOTED BUYER WITH MANY HOSTING PACKAGES THEY HAVE DONE MANY MISTAKES FOR ME AND COST ME A LOT OF MONEY AND TIME WASTED! I HATE THEM AND I MOVED TO INMOTION HOSTING. THIS WAS PROBABLY THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE!!
I signed up with InMotion, and am perfectly happy with how prompt they were in setting me up and getting my sites up and running.
I am a web designer, and I construct my own sites using professional software, FTP, etc.
However, within 12 hours, I successfully transferred my site (which is almost 1 GB in size) to InMotion, and it works flawlessly.
Their prices are excellent, their online support and documentation is tops. They have superb Flash tutorials, and you have extensive access to web analysis info about your site.
Couldn’t be happier.
This is a great hosting site. They transferred my old site and I had no problems, and they are inexpensive too. Whenever i have any problems they resolve then in a fast way. My only complaint is that they could use more sports type templates.
Thanks inmotion hosting for doing a great job!

Just wanted to add my two cents.
I’ve been with InMotion since early 2006 and have only one or two issues in that timeframe, one of which was just a software incompatibility issue with the older sql and php version on the server I was on. I called, they moved me to another server and updated my account to reflect the current offerings, which include unlimited storage and data (when I signed up, my package wasn’t unlimited). That was a very nice thing to do since I didn’t even mentioning upgrading. And the price has never changed. 9 bucks a month for 10 domains, unlimited data, unlimited storage, 5,000 email accounts, 100 sql databases, and 75 subdomains is nothing less than amazing.
I could go on and on about the features, but I’ll talk about reliability instead.
In those 4 years, i’ve NEVER had downtime (other than a server reset, which may last a minute). No serious downtime. Hosting 5 sites, 4 of which are php powered (Drupal). Two of these sites have HUGE databases, one with over 10,000 pages. Both have tons of video, some images. Always loads fast, always streams video perfectly. Not the first data loss (knock on wood!). Was attacked once by a scum that sneaked in the backdoor of an old WP installation that I forgot about. I did have backups… but so did InMotion. In less than 15 minutes, my largest site was fully restored, sql and all. They knew exactly where he got in and told me what to do (which I knew then to delete WP).
This is how confident I am in InMotion: I’m a web designer, and although I do run XAMPP on my machines, I usually design client sites using a “devsites” domain on my InMotion account. I install whatever software I’m gonna use (usually Drupal), then go from there. I’ve never had an issue doing this and a lot of times it works out much better for my distant clients. I can actually show them a live preview. I wouldn’t do this with ANY other host… for fear of loss of data.
Bottom line: I’ve tried many different hosts (including GoDaddy, who I hated) and not one comes close to InMotion. As long as their around, I will NEVER use another host. NEVER.
I am using IMH for the past 3.5 years. When I used Joomla and Virtuemart, there were no complaints except for 1 times of downtime, due to a front page hack attack. It took them about 2-3 days to sort things out.
Now I moved to a Magento based site with barely 350 products and barely 90 customers/day (!!!) they claim I need to go to VPS. This seems to me like a poor behavior. I wish I smoke what you do and observe a site with big DB with 10 000 pages without their interest and attention. Just sayin…
I’ve been with Inmotion for several years now. They’re pretty solid as far as everything I’ve seen. I’ve never been affected by downtime, the prices are right and everything is easy to take care of with the account. My only complaint with them is their support staff. It might just be their first level support, but they’re horrible. I’ve had several instances where it almost appears as if they don’t read the request completely before answering. Outside of the limited interaction I’ve had with support – everything’s been great. I’m actually looking at signing up a second business account with them.
I am with InMotion Hosting and I agree that they are great.
They are very fast, helpful, and friendly. When you call, you get a human, and fast. I hope to God they stay they way they are now, because I am really glad I chose them.
I am glad to read all these reviews. I chose inMotion for my client. And it’s running great. I am also going to transfer my site to them in few months after my current hosting plan ends with another company.
We have dedicated servers with inmotion hosting as a web design and development company and thus so far we have had a few issues with support but that is to be expected in any technologic arena. They are fairly supportive and promte but any one using a hosting company should keep in mind this is what they do best. Do not expect them to configure websites or files for you or upload software to support your websites even if it may be a server software, this is your responsibility.
Even though everything has not be perfect with inmotion hosting, needless to say things do happen and this is something we should all keep in mind. We have leased servers from other companies and I can truly say my experience with Inmotion Hosting has been far better then my past experiences.
Cheers
Thanks for all the reviews. I was on the fence with inmotion but think I’ll do it now.
Well..ive been looking for a business web host for close to 3 weeks now. All these positive comments might as well have helped close the deal for me. Keep it up guys. Inmotion hosting..here I come.
If you’re hosted by Inmotion does your site appear on Google
I have been working with InMotion for approx. 2 years. During that time I have had cause to work with them to reslove issues, often quite gnarly ones. InMotion has been, WITHOUT QUESTION, the FINEST hopsting service I have ever worked with. I have been working with computers since 1973, and micro computers (desktops) since AT&T first releade their Olivetti 6300 dual floppy model. I have called InMotion at 2 in the afternoon, 6 in the morning, and1am. The worst that has ever happened is while on hold, an automated message came on and recognized I had been on hold for too long and elevated the status of my call. Within moments of that notification, I was talking to someone that spoke good english.
I cannot say enough good things about them.
I switched to InMotion in 2010 after another web host (which shall remain nameless) sent me an email saying that they were upgrading the server that hosts my site. They told me not to make changes to the site during x number days which worked out well because I was on vacation then. About a week after the “upgrade”, I noticed the site wouldn’t work. It took me a month of calls and emails and online chats, and finally I just said “Screw it” and decided to try to get it working myself. I managed to get the site “up” only after discovering that this BAD HOST had improper DNS records. The host claimed that they were “baffled” as to why it wasn’t working. And then after I re-did the DNS and pointed everything to the right place, I get an email from tech support saying that nothing was wrong! Jerks! They blamed me for the problem, but I had never done a thing, and their emails before their upgrades SPECIFICALLY said not to make changes.
Frustrated by their incompetence, I switched to InMotion. Superb service. Within an hour I had everything working correctly. With regards to transferring your sites, they never offered to do this for me, although they told me that they could help and gave me very good instructions. I did have problems migrating my mySQL database, but it was a probably with the coding of my PHP and not with InMotion. From all the hosts that I spoke with while shopping around, not one of them would or could transfer your sites, at least not without some work on my end.
They’re a superb web host, and since then I have upgraded my account several times, have asked them questions, and they always provide great answers in a timely manner. I can’t imagine using anyone else.
Recent “upgrade”? Let me guess… That’s exactly why I am here trying to decide on a new host! The “upgrade” broke key features of the two sites I manage, without warning. It also caused the billing system to think that our prepaid terms of service had been cancelled, and I had to make several calls to get them to stop sending past due notices and properly credit our accounts. While trying to resolve the technical problems caused by the “upgrade,” I experienced hold times of up to 40 minutes, and most of the tech service people were nearly unintelligible. They also were unable to explain why (unnamed host) did not warn us that certain features of our sites would not work after the “upgrade” (though they knew). I’ve finally gotten the sites running properly again (after hours and hours on the phone), but I’ve had it with (nameless host)! A friend has recommended InMotion, and I will definitely consider it, based on the comments here.
Hi Guys,
We are planning to move our site to InMotion because my current hosting company was so slow. I have two questions that you guys might know the answers:
1. My page was slow to load using IE but for FF it is OK. Moving to VPS entry level in inmotion would help our site to load faster.?
2. The outbound email after users registration from my current hosting company it takes more than 10 minutes before it gets delivered to the users mail box. Same question, Moving to VPS entry level in inmotion would make the email be delivered alot faster?
Thanks and looking forward for any reply.
I prefer to hide my identity to avoid penalties. I have a VPS at InMotion. I arrived there because my reseller account at HostGator started to suck.
Advice: all the providers sucks!… all of them are overselling their space.
We have been with InmotionHosting for 4 or 5 years now. We are very happy with the service and reliabliity. (Today not so much, it looks like they are under a DDOS attack right now. Last Friday it happened, now today. Somebody really hates them.) Our site is not a high traffic site but it hosts a lot of tools used by our staff and clients. They keep php/mysql/perl up todate and allow you to add modules that you need to perl and php without having to get support involved.
I would recommend them highly.
I would have used them, only they never gave me the chance. Tried to sign up and they said my credit card billing address didn’t match the address I’d entered.
I called them and they suggested maybe it was because the credit card co had the wrong address (they don’t). So after three error messages I gave up and went to another hosting company. Only to have my credit card co call me to verify some suspicious activity – three transactions of the exact same amount to Inmotion. I then called them back only to have the guy tell me that the transaction never went through…promising me it won’t appear on my statement, we’ll see…
I have been with Inmotion for 7 years. I love the company. I tried a few others before finally landing with Inmotion. They have always done their job and a little more for me. One problem over the years that was a coding mistake on my part and they pointed it out, which was really not part of their job. I like them and recommend them highly. My web site has been attacked by the Chinese government twice as they have tried to take it down and both times Inmotion thwarted the attack. One of those times the Chinese took down several web sites during the same day in a very orchestrated attack, some of those web sites were USA government sites, Inmotion kept me whole. Yes my site went down, but I was able to get it back up within just a few hours as Inmotion isolated the attack and the trojan quickly and backed up my entire site quickly.
my URL is www.baronet4Tibet.com of course the Chinese want it down.
Haven’t been with Inmotion for terribly long (less than a year, actually) but have to report that I’m so satisfied with the service that I’m recommending them to all of my clients interested in hosting. So reliable the thought of anything otherwise completely vacates your thoughts. Support has always been answered thoughtfully within 24 hours (and 24 hours is a bit of an exaggeration frankly…usually a few hours if it’s during business time, tops), and have even had my more left-field questions regarding non-standard CMS’ met with individual research they had obviously conducted as a response to my question. Superb.
thx for reviews, but been around the net and it sucks when one says: up all the time, and another says down most the time. ??? anyway inmotion looks good overall. but I can tell you serverfly…serversux…I need to get away from there…slow, and the cust support page has been down the last week and a half. more and more probs there.
The documentation about the site and options is often missing key details.
One example is that the website details that you can upgrade your account at any time. Turns out that is not actually true if you are on the basic plan. No documentation explains this. It took a couple calls and email to get that answer from staff.
When I expressed interest in moving to a higher plan I was quoted two different prices from two people.
They have been up consistently and are generally OK but their support and documentation needs to be tightened up and more consistent so users don’t waste time needlessly chasing down answers.
