NEXX web hosting does suck.
Our ISP changed their name from alltel.net to windstream.net and we forgot to update out contact info with NEXX. When our bill came due, they were unable to contact us. Poof! One day our website goes down, I called NEXX within 12 hours and was told the site was not disabled, but deleted. Our website has a forum that involves server-side databases. I offered to pay for a restore and was told they would get back to me, three days and two emails later I called again and asked “Where’s my answer?”. They escalated me to someone at NetFirms (parent company?). It took 3 more days of phone/email tag to finally be told it was impossible to restore our account. They offerered us a free year of hosting and said the email to setup the new account was on the way. Two days later, having received no email, I moved our hosting to InMotion. From what I can tell, InMotion places more emphasis on customer-level backups, and customer service in general.
I think it’s pretty poor business policy, that when unable to contact a long-time customer, your first move is too entirely delete their website. Then, taking over a week to actually confirm their was no potential for restoration had me feeling like I was dealing with the Keystone Cops. NEXX customer service never once responded to any of my communications in a timely manner.
After seeing the ad in PC World, and reading about Nexx as a host – I was excited that I might find a low cost host that could actually handle a small business.
I researched and found that last year they were offerring their service featuring 300 gb of storage and 3000 gb of bandwidth – and that their “clustered hosting” helped avoid the dreaded CPU Load problem that I have faced in the past.
So, I contacted the folks at Nexx.com and showed them my last 2 years of bandwidth usage ( average of only 100 gb per month – never above 150 gb per month) and they told me that I didn’t qualify because of my CPU Load potential. How could they tell from my low bandwidth usage alone?
How can they offer unlimited bandwidth – then tell me before even having me try their service that my 100 gb bandwidth would cause them a CPU Load problem?
I feel that they are dishonest and misrepresent what they offer.
Too bad… they could have been a good solution. But, they seem to be offerring more than they are willing to give.
I’m disappointed.
